Common Wealth Games and Me

For the past 6 months, every morning i have been asking my dad, "Appa, can we make the CWG into a world class event ?" and he would say. "Definitely.". My dad used to quote me similar examples from the past on how everything was going wrong and final Asian Games finally happened. I used to listen to him and believe that yes India can make it.
Then the FIFA world cup happened and i was super thrilled. I asked my dad can our inauguration ceremony be similar ??? and he said India would do better. But one sham after another and now the latest incidents of the bridge collapse and unlivable conditions have broken me into tears. I love my country a lot. I thought we would make ourseleves proud by showcasing "INCREDIBLE INDIA", but are we doing it ? Feel ashamed and pathetic on the issues and also on the fact that the money i pay as taxes around 70,000 crores of it has resulted in this shame.
But is blaming the OC and the GOVT officials enough ??? They are responsible NO DOUBT. But are they the only ones responsible ?? I dont think so. I consider myself equally responsible for the mess. I looked the other way when I was supposed to have been checking on it. It hurts me the most when i realise, that when a similar situation arises at my home , like a small painting job or housekeeping job , how much i go behind those people to get the work done properly. And for the CWG i did NOTHING.
People will tell that i am over reacting, emotionally speaking out of place, but i would like to tell them that i am not telling just IDEALISTIC things. I had a layoff of around 6 months. I was sitting at home practically doing nothing but some small work. I was free to go and ask the CWG commitee on what the status is. I could have filed a case with the RTI or filed a PIL in the supreme court. I could have written to the Prime Minister or Sports Minister. I could have written to the President of India. I could have started a campaign like the one i am doing ( PEOPLE FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDIA ) on facebook. But I DIDNOT. And thats where i feel i have betrayed myself the most.
Yesterday, on Times Now, KIRAN BEDI, made a startling comment. "We have become used to under average work. We dont bother to take into consideration discipline and sincerity in work. And this callous behaviour by Indians has just been EXPOSED." I fully agree with you madam. And i am ashamed of myself more than anybody.
But wat should all this result into ??. We must take up sincerity as an important issue. We must make sure that all the work we do or get done are done with full discipline and honesty. Today i want to promies myself that i would not let anything of this sort happen again. I would do whatever it takes to make India proud in whatever way i can. I love my country the most and today with shame i say I am sorry to my country and to all the freedom fighters who made this country.

I am sorry

  1. Really true message.... Youngsters should arise for the welfare of the country ... and the political people should also welcome the public participation .... in all the fields, incidents, events which will show our unity to the world... This is the right time.......... to analyse ourself towards our mother country....

  3. I like the way you think patriotic. We as a citizen should do a some thing about this but the question we ask is y should i do rather y should i don't do.The rains are equal part to play in this menace but time given was 6 years that has to be considered.i guess media is not doing good to make its image better half truth and whole lie is not good for our country.
try and save the games and be part of it and let the world see our country what we can do...

  4. A lota emotion in your post. Sure, after something goes wrong we think about all the thing that we could've done, we should've done.. Right now, there only two things that we CAn do-

    1. Watch the CWG.. Show our support.. I dont know what else could be done at this stage...

2.Learn from all this! Follow the various project proposals our government makes, and like you said, ask for information, ensure transparency and raise our voice if something doesnt smell right. It is our money! and we DO have a say in it!
